If you’ve just installed Adobe CS3/4 you may be wondering why your Safari on OS X can’t display PDFs anymore.
It’s because Adobe mucked up the plugin which tells Safari to choose an application to view the PDF files.
To fix the problem go to:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins/
and delete the file:
AdobePDFViewer.plugin
Restart Safari and you will be looking at PDFs in a snap.

The days are numbered for all the Mac vs PC debates. Apple and Microsoft may be once again harmoniously holding hands as they skip down digital lane to beat the crap out of the neighbourhood bully that is Google.
Now that Google has their own phone, own OS, own voice channel (US only, so far), own search and own applications – this is an all out strike against Apple who have had similar products, even before the search giant had.
It appears that Apple maybe ditching Google’s search string in favour of Microsoft’s “Bing!”. Many Mac users are like, wtf mate. And it’s rumored that Apple are even creating their own search engine. High hopes.
Anyways, competition is always grand.

Apparently Apple have been hooking up the antenna incorrectly to some MacPro computers.
Mine, a 2x 2.8ghz quad core Xeon (from early 2008) had built-in Bluetooth but not Wifi.
I’ve just installed a 802.11n card and noticed that the antenna cable to the Bluetooth was incorrect. I found out about this from Kirk McElhearn when looking for the correct antenna connections.
Now my MacPro can connect to my Mighty Mouse and not drop connection. Also I’m connected to my Wifi box – although it’s 802.11g :(
That will change when we move into a new flat, new Apple network, new movies to stream over the air!

I just heard an interesting advert on the radio from BT, saying “if a conversation is worth having – use your BT landline”. Sounds like BT are feeling a bit left out in the cold while most people these days favour the ease of mobile phones rather than be tied to one fixed line.
Plus at £38 a month is a bit steep for a fixed line…

When I arrived in London at the start of August 2006, the pound was 3.2x the NZ dollar.
Now, November 2009, three and a bit years later, the pound is 2.2x the dollar.
Check out this graph from fxstreet.com:

I’m supposed to be attending a friends party tonight, but she only announced the details on Facebook. This is a bit of a problem as Facebook has currently undergoing “maintenance” apparently.

Yes, most people have a Facebook account, and it’s a great way to announce mass-audience messages – but it shouldn’t be confused with email/invitations. Now why is sending email more difficult than a Facebook invite? Is it the visibility of seeing who’s attending? Is it the avatars/facial recognition? Or is it the open-ness which makes Facebook differenciate from regularass email?
Facelark sucks. Now i’m late, probably.

Unfortunately for o2, the iPhone has been opened up to other carriers. Vodafone and Orange have both cited that they will start selling the iPhone soon as o2 was the exclusive reseller.
And this is a good thing. o2’s network is quivering under strain from heavy usage. A word from a bird says o2’s network is at 97% capacity. It’s apparent to iPhone users that their network is showing signs of defeat as most times signal drops and data crawls even disconnects frequently. Hopefully Orange and Vidafone have enough beef to hold the rest of us in a digital downward spiral of bits before we all hit the bottom of timeouts.

I despise lazy people.
Royal Mail have failed as a company, and their workers have been pushed to the edge of reason and strike against the company. However, this hurts the consumer greater than the hurting the Royal Mail head honcho.
And in addition to the strike which has been going on for the past two weeks, Royal Mail “cuts prices” on – no longer employing a team to answer phones, but to utilise a voice recognition system (which is fruitfully repugnant) and has no option to speak to an ACTUAL HUMAN BEING. I spent 6 minutes speaking to the female version of HAL, having to repeat everything at least twice. And why the hell do we require voice recognise in these days, especially with the quality (or lack of) of the voice stream on a mobile phone (probably similar to mono 8bit, 11025hz) and then there are the dropouts. I understand that some people don’t have the ability to press buttons, such as dudes who’ve lobbed off their arms.. but why isn’t there the option at the start to say “Say, ‘voice’ to hear options using your voice or press 1 to continue”.
Back to my inital point. I’ve bought something online from the UK and have been waiting for it since the 7th of September. It has been in the Royal Mail deposit centre since the 9th. Now it is the 17th of September and the status on the track and trace website says it’s still in the depo centre. Seriously you guys, you suck.
